Report Pegs SD Economy to Inequality

A report out Wednesday by sociologists at the University of Southern California asserts that San Diego’s economic growth will depend mightily on reducing income inequality, racial disparities and other examples of inequity.

“Growth is leaving these people behind,” said lead author Manuel Pastor, a USC sociology professor, who calls the trend an Achilles heel for San Diego. “There is a challenge to the business community to think about equity.”

I’ll wager that many business leaders will find this report hard to swallow. They would be wise to try anyway.
