A new private economic survey suggests California’s economic recovery may be slowing down. The monthly ADP Regional Economic Report found that California only added 2,690 nonfarm private sector jobs in April.
ADP, a private administration and management firm, compiled the report using payroll data from its clients. According to Ahu Yildirmaz, senior director of ADP’s research division, the slowdown was driven by losses in manufacturing, which shed 1,760 jobs and contracted for the 13th consecutive month, and mining and construction employment, which lost 70 jobs.
Yildirmaz said the losses were more obvious this month because California’s service industries, including professional services and trade sectors, didn’t pick up the slack.
