California farmworker overtime bill signed by Jerry Brown

His signature followed narrow passage in the Legislature and intense lobbying by farmworkers. Assembly Bill 1066 will raise overtime wages for agricultural workers incrementally over four years, ultimately matching other industries by requiring time-and-a-half pay for more than eight hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.

State’s Progress on 1.5 Million Zero Emission Vehicles by 2025

The latest new vehicle sales data from California New Car Dealers Association  shows continued but slowing growth in California’s purchases of new cars and trucks.  Key findings from the data: 

• Total light vehicle sales in 2016 Q2:  542,565.  Up 1.8% from 2015 Q2.

• Market share, cars:  54.8%.  Down from 59.3% in 2015 Q2.

• Market share, light trucks:  45.2%.  Up from 40.7% in 2015 Q2.

• California average price per gallon regular gasoline, 2016 Q2:  $2.81.  Down from $3.50 in 2015 Q2.

California attorney general subpoenas oil refiners in gas-price probe

Gordon Schremp, senior fuels analyst for the California Energy Commission, said he was aware of Harris’ investigation of the state’s refiners. . . “There have been all kinds of major allegations,” Schremp said. “I’ve seen [attorney general investigations] with all kinds of price spikes. I don’t know of an incidence where they’ve come back and said, yes we’ve found manipulation in the gasoline market.”
