California Does Poorly in Recent Business Poll

It’s been a rough week for California in the media. Analysts have been more critical lately of Gov. Jerry Brown’s record on the state’s roughly $213 billion public pension debt and his continued pursuit of costly infrastructure projects such as high-speed rail and a massive water delivery system for the Central Valley.
On Thursday, it was CNBC’s turn. The news channel ranked California No. 47 in the 2013 Top States for Business ranking based on 10 metrics, such as cost of doing business, technology and innovation, education, cost of living and infrastructure.
California fared terribly in a handful of categories, placing last in cost of business and 48th for business friendliness — a direct slap to Brown and the Democratic supermajority that controlled the Legislature for the first six months of the year.
