California Punishes Its Farmers With More Bad Policies

People outside of California sometimes refer to it as the “land of fruits and nuts.” That is a reference to its people not its farm products. Of course, California has also been known as the “bread basket” of the world, which is a reference to its farming prowess. Year after year, however, government policies have been aimed squarely at California farmers as if they are the bad guy – and at this rate, there may well not be enough fruit and nut growers in California to keep feeding our nation – let alone the world.

One of the greatest advancements in the history of mankind occurred when one region of the world was able to produce such a surplus of food that it was able to send it to less fortunate regions. In doing so, they helped to alleviate food shortages and starvation. For more than 100 years, California farmers have played a key role in that effort. Indeed, not long ago, nine out of the top 10 most productive agricultural counties in America were in California.
