Setting the stage for scrutiny of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s record on job growth, City Council President Herb Wesson on Wednesday ordered the formation of a panel to look at boosting employment in the city.
Siding with complaints from local business groups, Wesson said in a speech on the Los Angeles City Council floor that L.A. lacks a job creation plan.
“You never have enough jobs,” Wesson said in a follow-up interview. “You can never have enough businesses, and that’s what I’m going to be focusing on.”
Wesson’s announcement comes one day after Garcetti offered a starkly different assessment of City Hall’s approach to job growth and characterized concerns from the business community over the issue as “abstract complaints.”
