New State Budget Offers Few Major Reforms for Business

California’s lawmakers agreed last week on a state budget that tackled issues like school funding and Medi-Cal, but had little in it for business.
Gov. Jerry Brown now has 12 days to sign or veto the new $96.3 billion fiscal plan that takes effect on July 1.

The governor last month proposed far-reaching changes to the state’s enterprise zone program, but the budget passed last week didn’t include those reforms. A Brown spokesman has said there is no timeline for when lawmakers might introduce the governor’s proposal for the program.
