California Trade Report for September 2021

The July trade figures in general continue to show a degree of recovery when compared to the 2019 pre-pandemic levels, but only regaining ground rather than moving forward. On an annualized basis, import flows were up 3.1% annually from 2019 in nominal terms, and export flows up 3.3%. In real terms, both were essentially unchanged.

Initial claims within California rose 5.0% during the week of October 9, while claims in the rest of the country rose 6.5%. The seasonally adjusted number of claims dropped 10.9% for the US.

Initial claims within California dropped 13.4% during the week of October 2, while claims in the rest of the country fell 14.0%. In all, California contained 26.3% of all initial claims filed during the week. PUA initial claims—which are still being processed for claims covering the previously eligible period—rose to 12,826.

Initial claims within California again jumped during the week of September 25, rising 26.1%, while claims in the rest of the country dropped 11.1%. In all, California contained 41.0% of all initial claims processed during the week.
