Bechtel Group moving headquarters to suburban Washington, D.C.

San Francisco lost one of its most storied firms Thursday when Bechtel Group said it will move its headquarters to Reston, Va., by year-end after more than a century here.

The loss of the San Francisco headquarters of the secretive engineering, construction and project management company means the Bay Area will lose about 150 jobs along with the prestige and corporate philanthropy. The privately held firm that has worked on several major infrastructure projects over the past century, including the Bay Bridge and the Hoover Dam. It had revenue of $33 billion in 2016 per year and is the Bay Area’s largest privately held company.
