Income Gap Between Rich And Poor, Black and White Has Grown

The gap in income between rich and poor people and blacks and whites has grown in California over the last 20 years, according to a report from nonprofit Next 10 in San Francisco.
Although poverty rates have increased in most states during the Great Recession of 2008 to 2011, the increase in the Golden State is among the highest. “California’s increase in poverty is still among the highest when we take account of housing prices,” says the report, part of Next 10’s “Compare 50” project, which provides data on 60 economic indicators in all 50 states to “provide a solid empirical foundation for policy debate.”
