The U.S. economy has been a mixed bag during the first half of 2013. We have made some progress, particularly when looking at the all-time highs in the stock market or the consumer confidence measures that are now at levels not seen since before the financial crisis. Real GDP is growing modestly, up 2.4% in the first quarter, and it is expected to rise 1.8% in the current quarter.
